Overview
The Lizard Tail Plant, also known as Swamp Lily, is a relatively easy-to-grow hardy marginal pond plant perfect for filling empty pond landscapes with beautiful greenery. The Lizard Tail Plant has attractive heart-shaped leaves that can range in coloration from bright green to a deep dark green. In addition to its ornamental foliage, the Lizard Tail Plant provides fantastic visual interest to the pond or water garden with its drooping arched floral clusters. As its common name suggests, the Lizard Tail Plant produces elongated floral clusters that are similar in appearance to the curved tail of a lizard. The white floral clusters exude a slight citrus fragrance that introduces another wonderful element to the overall pond experience. The Lizard Tail Plant typically blooms throughout the summer and into early Fall for a floral presentation that can fill the entire pond season.
The Lizard Tail Plant is a low-maintenance plant that is easy to keep in moist conditions or immersed at the pond's edge under partial shade or in full sun conditions. The Lizard Tail Plant exhibits a loose mounding growth habit that can form an impressive drift when planted en masse. To maintain a neat appearance or to contain excess growth, pot the Lizard Tail Plant in a 5 gallon or large planting container and set the planter in your pond so it is covered by up to 6 inches of water.
The Lizard Tail Plant is a hardy perennial that is native to swamps and wetland areas in the eastern half of the United States. Zones 4-11.
